For I the Lord your God hold your right hand;
I am the Lord, who says to you,
fear not; I will help you!
Isaiah 41:13 AMPC
Can you remember, or envision, what it is like for a child to walk hand in hand with their father? The child is trusting, carefree, adventurous, abiding in faith, at the side of the father. The father, purposed, protective, poised to lead. As the father extends his hand, he extends his covering. Together, they journey. Step by step. One leads. Knowing. One follows. Trusting. In unison, new horizons of faith are discovered.
Many of us find it difficult to be as little children, exhibiting childlike faith, but that is what God seeks - the exuberance of a child. (Matthew 18:3 NIV)
Heartbreaks come. Our earthly fathers fail to be perfect, but God remains the same.
He is the perfect Father. (Matthew 5:48 NKJV) Faithful. (1Corinthians 1:9)
Everlasting. He never grows tired or weary. (Isaiah 40:28)
He is ours... our Father in heaven. (Matthew 6:9)
For, the Lord has promised to be a father to the fatherless. (Psalm 68:5aTPT)
Though our father and mother may have abandoned us, the Lord will take us up [adopt me as His child]. (Psalm 27:10 AMP)
He is our Abba Father, receiving us with the Spirit of adoption. (Romans 8:15)
He will never leave us, nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5 NKJV)
Continually, he is with us to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:20 NKJV)
His love remains the same…never failing. Unwavering. Unconditional.
The love of God is patient and kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. His love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Truly, His love never fails. (1Corinthians 13:4-8) It is pure. Perfect. There is no fear in the Father’s love. (1John 4:18)
There is no condemnation found in Him. (Romans 8:1)
Our Father never covers us in shame. In Him, we are radiant. (Psalm 34:5 NKJV)
There is no evil in God. In Him, no sin can be found. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
He is trustworthy in all He promises. (Psalm 145:13)
God is good. (Psalm 118:1)
Unfortunately, in our journey upon this earth, the pure image of God is filtrated through man’s sinful nature, causing our impressions of a father to become distorted. In the hearts of many children, trust becomes broken along the way.
Dads disappoint. Divorce is decreed. Violence erupts. Abuse infiltrates. Neglect happens. Unwittingly, we mask God’s image with what we have experienced. Many children have to learn to trust again. Yet, in doing so, God will direct the path of those who take His hand. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
The discovery of Father God’s true character happens with one step of faith at a time. As the Lord Almighty holds onto our hand, let us not pull away from Him, but be determined to stay in step with His Spirit. (Galatians 5:25 ESV) His lead is to be trusted. His grace proven to be sufficient. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Let us walk by faith, with a fire in our belly, a skip in our step, and a glint in our eye… not by what we have seen. (2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV)
Let go of the old way of thinking. Grasp the hand of the One true God. Hold on to faith.
Discover the pure heart of Abba Father.
Be childlike!
Prayer
Father,
Empower me to step out in faith, letting go of what I have seen.
I want to know the true heart of You, my Father.
Wash over me. Soften my heart, purifying every vision I have ever held of You. Remove any wrong images of a father’s role in my life. Let Your healing touch embrace my every disappointment. Lift my head, O God, fix my gaze upon You.
I long to know You more.
Restore unto me a fire in my belly, a skip in my step, and a glint in my eye for You.
Childlike and free, I will take hold of Your hand, and follow your lead.
My heart sings, as I walk hand in hand with You.
I have found joy in the journey!
THE MASK HAS BEEN REMOVED!
I have found my true Daddy!
Amen
